Seafood and Fisheries Emerging Technologies (SAFET) brings together a global network of technology developers and implementers that are committed to addressing the biggest challenges in the seafood and fisheries world. Emerging technologies play a key role to address issues such as environmental sustainability, social responsibility, provenance, equity, and economic viability. We believe there is a growing need for a central convening force in the fisheries and seafood technology space, one which better connects technology providers with communities, increases the flow of information between developers and stakeholders, enables adoption and scale, does these things actively, and one that is truly global in scope. SAFET’s mission is to realize the full potential of emerging technologies that ensure the sustainability and resilience of fisheries and the communities that depend on them, globally.As Executive Director, I am responsible for the growth and development of SAFET, connecting communities of practice through the flagship event and access to information via the SAFET platform, refining and executing the strategic plan to achieve SAFET's vision.

OceanMind delivers impactful programmes in every ocean basin with an efficient business engine providing support for an international team of 40 employees, diverse projects and partners worldwide. Receiving grants, corporate and unrestricted funds, governance, collaboration and management is key to success. As co-founder, established and led all business engine functions to ensure the efficient implementation of the CEO's strategy.Designed scale-appropriate business processes to ensure smooth running of day-to-day operations, including continuous improvement.Built a high performing operations team to underpin organisational growth including finance, legal, HR, facilities, and marcomms.As Company Secretary, reported to the board on organisation-wide risk management and governance.Devised marketing strategy and awareness campaigns that saw OceanMind feature with Sir David Attenborough on mainstream BBC for the Earthshot Prize, amongst other high profile media partnerships with the Economist, BBC, and Microsoft.Planned the OceanMind contribution to the Climate TRACE launch with Former Vice President Al Gore at COP28. Part of the Maritime Observatory relationship team, working with MAST (Maritime Archaeological Sea Trust) providing surveillance and monitoring with a mission to detect and deter unauthorised recoveries from wrecks and war graves at sea. Developed fundraising strategy to receive gifts from UHNWI and foundations, including Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, and private family offices in the UK and US. Managing expectations and complex relationship management relating to projects internationally across governments, NGOs, foundations and seafood industry supply chain including UK supermarkets.

Satellite Applications Catapult (an Innovate UK funded R&D organisation) incubated OceanMind from inception in 2014 to spin-out in 2018.Managed the day-to-day business operations support for the OceanMind business unit within Satellite Applications Catapult to ensure successful proof-of-concept to funders.Managed the relationship with Catapult's business operations teams and planned their de-integration in preparation for spin-out.With co-founders, supported the business case pitch to DRK Foundation to demonstrate competence for independent operations.Prepared OceanMind for a TUPE demerger from Satellite Applications Catapult by designing and installing all business operations functions needed for independent running over an 8 week period.
