Grants of $245,000 have been received from the Department of Energy, Washington, DC and the State of Wisconsin for the development of the hydraulic motor. The scope has been expanded to apply advanced hydrostatic drivetrain technology to new applications. The technology produces platforms for Hydraulic Hybrids enabling fuel efficiency of 190 mpg and CO2 emissions of 33 g/km, sports car performance (0-60 in 3 sec.), lower weight (-1.000 kg), and higher safety - all at lower costs. Helicopters for high speed (310 mph), tanks with increased protection and power, locomotives with energy recuperation, and wind turbines with constant speed generators on ground level are additional projects, demonstrating the specific benefits of hydrostatic drivetrain technology.The drive system is based on a new hydraulic free-piston combustion engine with opposed pistons and exhaust driven piston charger (2 Patents, Patent pending) driving hydraulic motors with pressurized fluid. The electric-hydraulic controlled engine with ultra-high pressure (3.500 bar) peripheral fuel injection is impulse-charged and recuperates a large amount of the exhaust energy. The high, variable compression ratios and charge pressure allowing for multiple fuels and gases reducing the fuel consumption by 30% (140 g/kWh), emissions by >35%, and the size, weight and costs significantly . The hydraulic axial-piston motor (2 Patents) provides a five-fold increase in operating range and power density for reduced costs.
