About Ingrid Hoffmann
I studied biology and chemistry at the University of Saarland, Germany and the University of Lund, Sweden. After I received my PhD in 1987, I joined the research group of Prof. Max L. Birnstiel at the IMP (Institute of Molecular Pathology) in Vienna, Austria. In 1991, I moved to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany where I worked as a post-doc in the laboratories of Dr. Giulio Draetta and Dr. Eric Karsenti. I studied how entry into mitosis is regulated in mammalian cells. In 1995 I moved to the German Cancer Research Center, DKFZ in Heidelberg to start my own research group. The focus of my research is to understand how the centrosome is duplicated and how its deregulation can lead to numerical centrosome abnormalities, a hallmark of cancer cells.
