I understand an architect to be someone with the ability to respond to a problem in a multi-layered way considering social and technical informants to arrive at a truly unique solution. It is based on this understanding that I see myself as a dedicated individual who has the capacity to analyse situations in a rational manner whilst utilising my creative capacity to arrive at the best possible solution. It is therefore my biggest asset to be both rational and creative in equal measure. Despite this self-awareness, I have come to learn that Architecture to me is less about artistic self-expression and more about responding to the user and the context in an apt manner. Thus, resonating with Glenn Murcutt’s regionalist design philosophy of “touching the earth lightly”.
