Ingrid Kohlstadt MD, MPH is a graduate of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is Faculty Associate at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the largest school of public health in the world, in the Center for Human Nutrition. She completed a two year appointment to the FDA in the Office of the Commissioner, Office of Pediatric Therapeutics, and then as a Medical Officer. Her goal to transform the health of children and their families nationwide is profoundly shaped by her clinical, public health, research and regulatory work. Double board certified in preventive medicine and in nutrition, Dr. Kohlstadt earned a Masters Degree at Johns Hopkins in Public Health (Epidemiology), with an undergraduate degree in biochemistry. She is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.Dr. Kohlstadt is a thought leader in metabolic/nutritional medicine, and her best-selling second medical reference textbook entitled Food and Nutrients in Disease Management (CRC Press 2009) was favorably reviewed in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the Chicago Tribune, and in Hopkins Medicine Magazine. Dr. Kohlstadt recently completed three+ years of Johns Hopkins research and pilot studies at the Center for Human Nutrition for her disease risk management nutrition intervention called NutriBee, and its key component Bee Quest. With support from three substatial NutriBee grants, the research was recently published in a peer review journal.

In the Office of the Commissioner, Office of Pediatric Therapeutics, Dr. Kohlstadt participated in the international regulatory process surrounding drug safety, especially drug-nutrient interactions and medications which promote weight gain in children. Combining her medical and public health background and her experience as an educator, she developed a novel method for the FDA to ascertain physician knowledge on topics pertaining to drug safety. Identified high nitrogen content in local water supply and modified infant formula preparations accordingly. Lead hepatitis and pneumonia immunization initiatives and evaluated nutrition and diabetes programs among several Indian Nations. Acting Medical Director. Guided proposals through the internal review process, served as the study participants’ point of contact 24/7, worked with scientists to establish patient-related study parameters, attended weekly seminars, and rendered a physician perspective when requested. Involvement was concurrent with nutrition fellowship.
