Injong joined Bowery in January 2021 as CTO to lead its technology innovations to smart farming. Previously, Injong was with Google where he led its IoT efforts as an Entrepreneur in Residence. Under Injong’s leadership, Google launched the full hardware and software end-to-end platform for Cloud IoT service including IoT Core and EdgeTPU (purpose-built ASIC designed to run AI at the edge) which enables IoT application developers to implement, deploy and manage their AI services from the edge all the way to the cloud. Before joining Google, Injong was the global CTO of Samsung Mobile and its Head of Engineering primarily in charge of software and services at Samsung mobile leading over 12,000 R&D employees globally and responsible for products generating over $100 billions annually. During his tenure as CTO, Injong was frequently recognized for his contribution to making the company a significant player in the software industry -- quoted as "the invisible hand of a great designer" behind Samsung Galaxy smartphone software and their user experience design that made "Samsung's software caught to its hardware" today. Injong led the software development of all portofolio of Samsung mobile phones including flagship smartphones such as Galaxy S8, Note 8 and Note 7, smart watches and services including Samsung Knox, Samsung Pay and Bixby. Injong also comes with academic credentials in computer networks, mobile computing and IoT. He is the inventor of TCP congestion control, called CUBIC, adopted in all modern operating systems and serving over billions of Internet users everyday. He is a two-time winner of the IEEE William Bennett Award (2013, 2016). Before joining Samsung he was a professor at North Carolina State University.

ProfessorNorth Carolina State University Jul 1997 - Dec 2015Raleigh, North Carolina, UsDepartment of Computer Science. As a professor, he was a teacher (with several best teacher awards) and prolific researcher publishing over 100 research papers in reputable journals and conferences in the areas of computer networks, distributed systems, and the Internet. You may find all of Injong's publications from these links: http://bit.ly/RheeGoogleProfilehttp://bit.ly/RheeACMProfileThe most notable piece of his accomplishments as a professor is his contribution to TCP/IP, the transport protocol used in all Internet data transmissions including WWW, Internet search, email, file downloads, video streaming (e.g., Netflix) and video conferencing (e.g., WebEx, Zoom, Skype). If you are using the Internet, the chances are you are one of 4.5 billion users using his algorithm called CUBIC everyday. CUBIC (as well as its predecessor BIC) was developed to allow your data transmission to utilize the network capacity "fully" as well as "fairly." It replaced Van Jacobson's TCP congestion control algorithm which was developed in the 80's when the Internet capacity was many orders of magnitude smaller than today so it was not designed to fully utilize today's network capacity. CUBIC was designed to be scalable to almost any network capacity (by growing its network utilization in the order of a cubic function where the name CUBIC came from) while allowing the capacity to be used fairly among all the network connections competing for the capacity. CUBIC was made open-source in 2006 which helped its adoption in the Internet community. He believes that things essential to the success and progress of humanity should not remain proprietary and must be open to the public for free. -
