Periodical Safety Review / Periodische Sicherheitsüberprüfung (PSÜ)In the framework of the first prioritized project of KKL, the tasks of the position include:- Technical & executive assistantship of the Project Manager- Coordination and evaluation of the performance of the in-PSÜ-involved employees - Planning of the tasks, the used methods and their coherence with the swiss national directives for the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plants.- Scheduling and managing meetings & discussions, targeted to determine the strategic parameters towards a successful completion of the project - Reviewing of programming tools and Graphical User Interfaces, used for the project- Coordination of external employees, supporting PSÜ- Selection and documentation of the parameters required for the approval of the Power Plant's location by the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI). This study includes data and methods from population analysis, Meteorology, Hydrology, Geology, Seismology and accident emergency preparedness, related to the power plant's location.

The present study started in the framework of the author’s Semester Project duringthe 3. Semester of the MSc. Nuclear Engineering ETHZ/EPFL with the validation of theimplementation of SERPENT Monte Carlo Code in the EQL0D equilibrium procedure, thatwas based on ERANOS deterministic code and developed in the FAST Group at PSI.The Master Thesis concerned the fully automation of the EQL0D equilibriumprocedure, by integrating the required pin cell calculation Inputs for SERPENT into theseveral interface routines, developed for the coupling of MATLAB and SERPENT.The automation has been achieved and cases have been examined, in order tovalidate the procedure and to verify the capability of different reactor systems for fuelrecycling and operating in a closed fuel cycle. The study included examination of theequilibrium composition of an ESFR reactor, operating with fast spectrum, VVER reactor,operating with thermal spectrum and a MSR, operating with both thermal and fastspectrum. In addition to these simulations, two “Minor Actinide Burners” have beenexamined, by introducing to ESFR (fast spectrum) and to a VVER (thermal spectrum) feedcomposition of Minor Actinides.
