I am an IP lawyer's lawyer. At McCabe Law LLC, I focus my practice on IP matters, and more particularly, the representation of patent and trademark attorneys, IP law firms, patent agents, and in-house counsel in matters relating to legal ethics, law firm and corporate risk management, dispute resolution, and professional discipline defense before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the state and federal bars of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. In addition, I provide IPethics Solutions--a personalized CLE experience customized for your organization's needs and delivered in-person. And, I continue to be actively discussing the latest developments in ethics, discipline, and malpractice issues of interest to the IP practitioner on my IPethics & INsights law blog.

The focus of my practice involved the representation of intellectual property attorneys, patent agents, law firms, and corporations in legal ethics and risk management matters particularly as they arise in the field of IP law. I represented attorneys and patent agents in ethics investigations and adversary disciplinary matters brought by the Director of the Office of Enrollment and Discipline (OED) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as in ethics investigations and disciplinary proceedings filed by Bar Counsel in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. As a registered patent attorney and IP litigator with over 20 years of experience, I also represented corporate clients in matters pertaining to the acquisition, protection, licensing, and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Part of my practice included in-house and law firm training in risk management, professional liability and ethics.

Intellectual Property Litigation, counseling, due diligence, freedom to operate, and licensing; legal malpractice and professional responsibility in IP matters; representation of patent lawyers in disciplinary proceedings before the Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. bars and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Successfully defended the largest steel manufacturer in the world in a suit alleging infringement of six patents, and prevailed in a related antitrust lawsuit for sham patent litigation and Walker Process fraud. Represented the firm and its attorneys in malpractice and ethics investigation, and provided counsel to the firm on all matters relating to ethics and professional responsibility.
