Iqbal currently serves as the CEO of xCoefficient, helping companies transition their products and services to Generative AI platforms by leveraging mobile, cloud, and AI technologies. Over the past decade, he has played a pivotal role in shaping some of the most exciting technological advancements. He led the development of numerous industry-first product categories, including the original Droid smartphone, Google's first Android tablet, the first Android Wear smartwatch, and a breakthrough generative AI platform for the automotive market. Additionally, he has been instrumental in creating foundational 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies and chipsets, mobile software platforms, and industry-leading intellectual property.Iqbal has extensive experience leading start-up efforts, developing breakthrough technologies, and managing businesses for iconic global technology brands. He most recently served as the EVP and CTO of Cerence, where he led the development of generative AI computing platforms and applications for the automotive market. Previously, he was the Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Lenovo, Google, and Motorola. In these roles, he built global product, technology, and engineering organizations to drive innovation and deliver products worldwide.Throughout his career, Iqbal has built and managed high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams and sites across the U.S., Brazil, Europe, Korea, China, and India, comprising over five thousand talented scientists, hardware and software engineers, product managers, designers, manufacturing experts, leaders, and support staff. His leadership has resulted in the development of over 200 products and shipped hundreds of millions of devices, generating billions in revenue.Iqbal was named among Crain’s Chicago Business “40 Under 40.” He is a visiting scholar and adjunct professor at Northwestern University, founder and advisor of the Center for Deep Learning Lab at Northwestern, advisory board member at the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern, and adviser to several early-stage startups. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami, a Master's degree in Space Systems Engineering with a concentration in spacecraft design from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master's degree in Engineering Management from Northwestern University.
