I have been a public school teacher of mathematics with nearly twenty years experience, covering UK and North American curriculums. I enjoy teaching but also find the time to indulge in writing, playing the guitar, ministering, public speaking, and traveling.My philosophy of teaching is underpinned by an impetus to facilitate the learning process of students by being “a guide on the side”, rather than being the sage on the stage” to my students’ learning process (King 1933). Good teachers are not only teachers per se but facilitators of the learning process. A teacher tells, a facilitator asks; a teacher lecturers from the front, a facilitator supports from behind; a teacher gives answers according to a set curriculum, a facilitator fosters a conducive environment for learners to arrive at their conclusions; a teacher gives a monologue, s facilitator creates dialogue with the learners (Narmi & Githua, 2013).My mission as far as teaching is concerned is aligned with the vision of getting students to think critically, act compassionately, work meaningfully, choose wisely and live joyfully. I endeavor to leave a strong legacy as that of a great teacher who set high expectations for all my students, have clear , written-out objectives, being well prepared and organized. One who engaged students getting them to look at issues in a variety of ways, forming strong relationships and showing that he cares that students are people, in the process.
