As the University's first Ph.D. and first alumnus to assume the position of Dean of the College of Pharmacy at FAMU, I led the college in initiating its first clinical pharmacy programs, its first off-campus office in Miami, and building its first dedicated Pharmacy Building. My administration pioneered an accelerated curriculum which allowed pharmacy students to engage in research for credit while completing their then five-year professional program in four calendar years. Further, the entire state experiential (internship) requirement for licensure after graduation was incorporated into the professionanl curriculum for the first time. The new multimillion dollar ultramodern instruction and research facility provided multimedia feeds into each classroom, teaching-research offices for faculty, and pharmacology, natural medicinal products and pharmaceutical manufacturing laboratories for teaching and research for the first time.
