We built a wearable magnetoelastic generator (MEG) embedded in a compression shirt for real-time respiratory monitoring. Integration with an Arduino circuit facilitated data transmission directly to a laptop, highlighting the system’s portability and potential for real-time monitoring applications. Despite challenges in Bluetooth connectivity, the final MEG design shows promise for health monitoring in athletes and the general population, offering a non-toxic, biocompatible, and durable alternative to traditional battery-powered systems.

The management of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) requires administration of insulin to maintain blood glucose at safe levels. Current methods of insulin delivery, primarily through injections or pumps, can be invasive, inconvenient, and challenging. Our project aims at designing, synthesizing, and testing a smart, multi-layered hydrogel system for the oral delivery of insulin to diabetic patients. We will look to improve the specificity, bioavailability, and release kinetics of insulin, which are limitations in current oral systems, so diabetes management can be more efficient and user-friendly. First, hydrogel beads were synthesized capable of encapsulating insulin, ensuring its protection through the acidic gastric environment and controlled release in the small intestine. Concurrently, the delivery team developed a multilayer capsule, utilizing positively charged nanoliposomes for insulin stabilization and a chitosan coating to facilitate absorption across the intestinal epithelium. Expected outcomes include improved bioavailability and specificity of insulin delivery, mimicking physiological pathways and offering a groundbreaking alternative to current invasive methods. The successful implementation of this oral insulin delivery system promises to transform T1D management by providing a more effective, less invasive, and user-friendly treatment option, significantly impacting the quality of life for patients.

Media Campaign • Conceptualized and led a campaign, The Stigma Series, to mitigate the stigma surrounding mental illness, centered around the interview series. Our interdisciplinary team designed original comic strips and infographics to increase engagement. Tripled social media following on Instagram and Facebook, increasing donations by 45%. Music Therapy Program •Developed a music therapy program, where the girls in India can interact and connect with mentally ill women through music. Organized games, created communication frameworks, and genre-based posters. Led 24 sessions connecting over 20 students to 100 patients.

• For 3 months, worked as an intern leading large group recreational sessions involving games and discussion activities. Also, planned and conducted individual sessions for clients who had difficulty with speech, concentration, and comprehension. • Conducted a 10-part interview series with the director of the foundation, Binaifer Jesia, to discuss roots and solutions for prejudice against the mentally ill.
