I am one of the leaders of the financial markets team at law firm Dentons Kensington Swan, having served with the firm and its predecessors for over 30 years. I am widely recognised for my expertise in financial services law and regulation in New Zealand. As a member of the Code Committee under the now repealed Financial Advisers Act, I played an integral role in developing the inaugural Code of Professional Conduct for Authorised Financial Advisers. I was elected chair of that committee in August 2012, overseeing subsequent refinements of the Code. My extensive engagement with the financial services sector in the course of that role has provided me with invaluable insights into the issues affecting a wide range of financial advice and financial product providers. Sharing thoughts on those issues with other market participants over a cup of coffee is a privilege that constantly fuels my enthusiasm for assisting the firm's financial markets clients in their rapidly evolving regulatory environment.For a number of years I chaired Workplace Savings NZ, the peak industry body for retirement savings in New Zealand that has now been absorbed within the Financial Services Council, and I now serve on the workplace Savings Committee of the FSC. Retirement savings regulation is an area I am particularly passionate about, having been involved in superannuation and trust law issues since 1992.Outside my legal practice, I have a long history of involvement in community sport. I have been recognised by Cricket NZ and Wellington Cricket for my contribution to community cricket, with roles including convening Onslow Junior Cricket and chairing the senior Onslow Cricket Club for a number of years. The Olympic sport of handball now dominates my sporting interests, with all four of my children having represented New Zealand in the sport and in September 2020 I became the President of the NZ Handball Federation.
