Astrain Scheldt is a RIBA Chartered architecture practice founded by architects Irene Astrain and Peter Scheldt. Our focus is on delivering deeply contextual projects, carefully designed with a sense of joyful elegance.Since the conception of our practice in 2016 as Astrain Studio, we have developed a strong portfolio of high quality contemporary projects across the residential, educational and public realm sectors.Before founding Astrain Scheldt, Irene and Peter both spent over 10 years working at some of the most renowned architecture practices in London, having met at during their time at Patel Taylor Architects. Irene added to her experience at Piercy & Co, working on award-winning buildings across London. While Peter continued his development at Hawkins\Brown and more recently Stirling Prize-winning practice Stanton Williams - where he played a key role on transforming the Smithfield market buildings into the new Museum of London.Astrain Scheldt Architects now operate as a small team based in East London, with an ethos focused on providing complete client satisfaction and helping navigate the often-complex world of construction.

Astrain Studio Architects is an Architecture and Interior Design studio specialises in small to medium scale residential projects. Based in London, the studio is led by Director and RIBA ARB Architect Irene Astrain. Through a collaborative and rigorous design process, Astrain Studio Architects is dedicated to delivering deeply contextual and bespoke projects celebrating a contagious sense of joyful elegance.

Deputy Team Leader on the Wood Wharf Plot H project, London - Budget: £42 million - Client: Canary Wharf TeamDevelopment plot part of a large masterplan project. Plot comprising of two affordable housing buildings, a school and a masterplan site-wide substation. Key tasks: design team leader, coordination of consultants information for planning, design team and client meeting chair, internal team management, concept development to outline drawings.Project Architect on the Phoenix SEN School project, BSF Scheme, London - Budget: £8.3 million - Client: London Borough of Tower HamletsProject Architect from feasibility through to completion. Patel Taylor teamed up with Astudio and S333 and were with Bouygues UK successful on this BSF bid. In my role, I covered all stages of the RIBA plan of work producing most of the information independently (planning information, tender packages and construction drawings) and chairing all meetings with the school, the council and the end users. This project became my Part III case study.Architect on the Essex University project, Library and Student Centre - Budget: £16 million - Client: University of EssexInvolved in the Developed Design and Technical Design stages of the Library new build. Key tasks: detail design and preparation of packages for tender. Part II Architectural Assistant on the Thames View Housing project, Barking, London - Budget: £70 million - Client: London Borough of Barking and DagenhamOn completing the Thames View Masterplan, PTA was commissioned to design affordable housing on several in-fill garage sites. Together with the project architect, we designed a series of four to eight person houses. I was involved on this project from inception to planning. Other key projects: London Dock, Central Foundation Girls School, Sneinton Market Square, Imperial War Museum North landscape competition (runner-up) and Burgess Park Landscape Competition (runner-up).

As a part I and II Architectural Assistant I worked on competitions and in the design stages of a variety of residential and commercial projects including the Turnmills Building, 63 Clerckenwell Road refurbishment into offices and studios nominated for Refurbishment Architect of the Year in 2010 (Turnmill, a new built construction by Piercy & Co is currently under way), the Percival Street housing scheme (built) and the Brooks Road Estate residential scheme RIBA competition winner.

As a part I Architectural Assistant I ran projects in the feasibility stages and gave presentations to the clients in different cities in Spain in French, English and Spanish. The projects were mostly large retail, urban design and landscape projects.
