About Irene Chami
Upon being conferred my first degree, a critical friend asked me to ‘keep an open mind’ and ‘embrace a new challenge’...... there I was...a young girl full of expectations, a future full of promise. However,......a couple of years later, chasing a career I felt suited me best and fitted my profile, I realized this did not provide me the satisfaction I craved, until I recalled and elected to apply the advice. This, coming shortly after a mentor reiterated the message to ‘maintain a positive attitude always’ wherever I served. I realized the need to stretch my imagination and pursue my passion whilst being in a continuous state of learning, leading me to community work where I started out at the lowest rank. My work then involved managing calls, diaries, and appointments, later graduating to engaging communities in collaboration with partners towards formulating sustainable solutions to their problems......and there was my AHA! moment. That was IT! I have come to derive so much joy in developing healthier communities. Consequently, I seek to make a difference with those I come into contact with. To be better, I have advanced my career and experience by serving in different public health projects namely Female Genital Mutilation, Cervical Cancer, Adolescent Reproductive Health, Maternal Neonatal and Child Health, Behavior Change Communication, HIV and AIDS, Malaria, Health Regulation, Human Resources for Health, Health Systems Strengthening, Hemophilia working in varied capacities all geared to promoting healthier people and communities. I take pride in having been a part of spearheading, supporting, advocating, and lobbying for progressive policies to improve service delivery. I am a happy person that enjoys spending quality time with family, friends and making new connections. More than ever, I enjoy what I do!
Listed skills include Proposal Writing, Public Health, Program Management, Reproductive Health, and 46 others.
