When I was finishing high school and considering what to do next, I remember feeling very lost. After all, I was a good student that did very well in most of her subjects, but who did not have a clear passion for any of them. However, there was always a message clear in the back of my mind: "I want to help others". This did not simplify my decision; after all, there are so many ways of doing good in the world. I considered becoming a teacher, and help through educating the future generations of leaders, but I wanted to be a leader of change myself; I considered becoming a doctor, but I wanted to prevent sickness from appearing, rather than cure it once it did. Both are among the noblest of professions, however, they need a strong calling I didn't feel. So, how can I help others? How can I be useful to the world? These were the questions that I kept asking myself. It was then when I realised that I wanted to help with the biggest challenge of all: climate change. And so, I decided to choose the widest range of study I could think of, where I could learn the most about the way things work: I chose engineering. It was definitely not an easy road, but it was a rewarding one. I gained a broad perspective on the main technical challenges of our time, and built a useful set of skills that will accompany me no matter what I do. I knew very early on that I didn't want to take on a purely "traditional" engineering role, but rather put my technical skills at the service of sustainability. However, even before finishing my studies I realised that something was missing - the environmental background. So I started reading, learning, researching and taking part in as many environmentally-focused extracurricular activities as possible. And all of that led me to where I am today: a job that I love, working for a cause I believe in, surrounded by passionate people. But I wouldn't be where I am without the help and opportunities I've been given along the way. So this is my long way of saying: don't hesitate to reach out. If I can help you, as others helped me, I will. If I can't, at least I can guarantee a nice chat!
