Illustration is translate (sometimes complex) information into a clear and attractive image. A strong visual addition to and in balance with text. Whether that is non-fiction or narrative. And that is exactly what I like to do!Commissioned by various clients, I illustrate, among other things, informative (children's) books with subjects such as nature and history. Some picture books have been published in the US, China, Germany, Italy and England, among others.For about ten years I illustrated with great pleasure for daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad a weekly section on animal behavior in the science page for children.When carrying out assignments I spend a lot of time on research to achieve an optimal result. I like to work together with client, publisher, author, designer to achieve a beautiful and strong product.My specializations are popular scientific illustrations in the field of nature and history and (children's) books.Personal fascinations lie with nature, biodiversity, animals and issues in the field of sustainability, environment and climate. I am interested in ways of life that are in harmony with the nature around us. Permaculture is a subject that appeals to me for that reason: a design system in which people as part of nature can meet their needs without depletion of natural resources.My love for nature can be found in my work and I am curious by nature. If you work with me, you can expect a lot of questions and I like to help you with regard to content.I also offer illustration courses and individual (online) illustration coaching. I do this in collaboration with colleague Marijke ten Cate from our joint studio. Personal guidance and customization are central to us.
