I believe in giving everyone a voice and helping them achieve their potential. As a social worker, a paraprofessional educator, a caregiver, a friend, a spouse and parent, I have worked steadily and passionately for the good of my hometown and its residents. I understand the strengths as well as the needs of Mount Vernon’s Latino residents, especially migrant farmworkers and their families. As city councilwoman for Ward 1, I will encourage residents to participate more fully in the community and work tirelessly to continue to bridge the gap between the Anglo and Latino communities in our beautiful valley.

I serve the liaison between Washington Elementary School’s migrant families and the community as a paraprofessional for the Migrant Education Program, a program of the U.S. Department of Education started by President John F. Kennedy to help migrant children overcome barriers of poverty and frequent relocations to achieve academic success.

I have worked as a caregiver for the elderly and disabled in their homes and continue to support a client every week.

In this job, I helped open doors for immigrants of all ages and backgrounds seeking to improve their English language skills. These evening classes for adults served migrant families and offered a GED Program.

I worked with migrant and low-income families in the Maternity Support Services Program, providing services in advocacy, support, and referring families to the resources availables in the community.
