The Clinical Franchise Leader oversees the scientific and clinical strategy for all new vaccine projects in development globally within the Franchise. He/she provides strategic direction to the Clinical Team Leaders who lead the development of the Clinical Development Plan and execution of clinical trials for each project. He/she is the key interface with other functions within R&D, Chief Medical Office and the commercial organization offering scientific input from discovery through to launch and the commercial strategy to ensure a seamless development of new vaccines.

As a manager of the clinical vaccines department I was responsible for all scientific, strategic and operational activities in the clinical projects for vaccines.

I worked at the Department of Gastroenterology / Women's Health / Vaccines. My responsibilities were the operational conduct of clinical studies in the therapeutic fields, which included protocol development, regulatory contacts, site and investigator contacts, monitoring etc..

I worked at the department of Geriatrics and Gerontology, with Prof. D. Knook. My research topic was: serological responses in the elderly after annually repeated influenza vaccination. I wrote my thesis and in 1997 I did my PhD at the Leiden University.

Between 1982 and 1986 I studied to become a registered nurse while working at the Slotervaartziekenhuis. From 1986 to 1993, while at University studying Biomedical Sciences, I frequently worked as a registered nurse in several hospitals and health care institutions to pay my way through University.
