We study the relation between predators and meadowbirds & coastal breeders, where I mainly focus on the bird side of the project.

For 2 breeding seasons I worked as a field technician for an ongoing long-term research project on black-tailed godwits. My work consisted of resighting colour ringed godwits, godwit and predator counts, searching nests, handling and measuring eggs, catching and handling adults and chicks (ringing, measuring, sampling), tracking radio transmitter-equipped adults, data entry.

In the spoonbill breading season of 2017 I joined researchers on Schiermonnikoog to perform fieldwork. My work consisted of: mapping nest groups, re-sighting of color rings, catching juveniles, handling and measuring eggs, handling birds (labeling, measuring, sampling), entering data in the main data base. After fieldwork I used long-term data to analyze natal and breeding dispersal of spoonbills within the island of Schiermonnikoog.

To test social information use in nest site selecting pied flycatchers we performed an experiment that was conducted in Dutch National Park Dwingelderveld. Furthermore, I participated in the regular field work of the pied flycatcher group. My work consisted of: set up the experiment, scoring arrival, performing nest checks, catching adults, measuring, ringing adults and juveniles, taking samples (feather and fecal), scoring the developmental stage of oak tree buds, data entry in the project data base, data processing, statistical analyses. The end product was a report and oral presentation. An article about this study was published in 2017.
