Our team proactively generates media attention for the humanitarian organization, while also being available 24/7 to address journalists' inquiries regarding global and national disasters and emergency aid efforts.The team is trained to operate under challenging conditions, including disaster areas, and regularly travels to these regions to report and inform journalists about humanitarian situations. We actively advocate for humanitarian issues that might otherwise go unnoticed in the news.Additionally, the team provides training to employees and volunteers on effectively engaging with the media, and acts as the custodian of the Red Cross's narrative. We develop speaking points and Q&A documents covering various topics related to the organization's activities. Verder schreef ik persberichten en was ik verantwoordelijk voor het monitoren van media-aandacht en het te woord staan van journalisten.

Coordinated communication and media activities on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, right after a series of earthquakes and a tsunami struck the island. Worked as a IFRC spokesperson on the ground and ensured timely updates for (international) media and Red Cross Red Crescent movement partners. Part of my role was producing pictures, videos and written stories for social media purposes. I was part of the Field Assessment Coordination Team (FACT).

Mediterranean Sea

2016 was one of the deadliest years for migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea. As a communications delegate on board of the search and rescue vessel of the Red Cross and MOAS, I was responsible for external communication about the emergency operation at sea. Part of my job was providing updates, key messages and press releases. I accompanied (international) journalists on board and provided pictures, videos and written stories for the Red Cross Red Crescent social media channels.
