The ECI Secretariat, which is based at the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, endeavours to promote the mission, vision, strategies and policies adopted by the ECI Council. The Secretariat guides and liaises with efforts to bring the Earth Charter to the fields of education, youth, business and religion. It manages communications with the larger Earth Charter network, and promotes the use of the Earth Charter as an international soft law document.

In this position I am dedicated to proposing and maintaining an overview of the content and narrative around planetary wellbeing, education, and social care and responsibility. It includes developing materials and frameworks that create awareness around and motivate human behaviour change and action regarding the effects of the Anthropocene, inspiring people, organisations, and communities to implement caring and regenerative sustainable solutions. Connecting environmental, educational, and social issues are fundamental to promoting good animal, human, and planetary wellbeing. I create, maintain, and share services, tools, and resources reflecting the interconnection of the community of life, including humans and other animals, as well as all natural ecosystems on Earth. I support AnimalConcepts in achieving our purposes and am encouraged to be a visionary, thought leader and changemaker.

As an educator I believe in Nelson Mandela's phrase 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world'. Yuverta MBO Geldermalsen is als sfeervolle, overzichtelijk en moderne school een fijne plek om te leren. Vanuit samenwerken met en in de regio, wordt leren en werken gecombineerd. Het is een prettige, kleinschalige school waar werken en leren samenkomen. Samen met ongeveer 400 andere leerlingen ontwikkel je hier je eigen talenten in een open, relaxte sfeer. Helicon MBO Geldermalsen is in 2014 grondig verbouwd en dat zie je direct terug. Bistrotafels in de aula, een open leercentrum met ruime werkplekken en frisse leslokalen. In het sciencelab staat de nieuwste apparatuur voor testen en onderzoeken. En de eco-tuin is ontworpen door onze leerlingen. Hier vind je dierenverblijven, maar ook een teeltstellage met weerstation en een klimwand. Stralend middelpunt is de prachtige treurwilg, een gewilde plek om te studeren of te relaxen.

Walas is op veel fronten, die betrekking hebben op stadsontwikkeling, actief. Daarin gaat het om de mensen, om de community, en niet zo zeer om de gebouwen. Op dit moment zijn we hard aan het werk in o.a. Heerlen, Tilburg, Vaals, Ede, Steenwijk, San Francisco en Vancouver. Vanaf augustus 2014 zal ik vanuit Vancouver als General Manager werken aan de Canadese Walas Concepts Inc projecten.Voor Earth Charter heeft Walas het Earth Charter Cities Manifesto mogen schrijven welke voor het eerst werd gepresenteerd op 27 juni 2010 in het Vredespaleis te Den Haag. Inmiddels is het manifest gelanceerd op diverse spraakmakende congressen over de hele wereld. Vele steden, groot en klein, uit alle continenten, hebben van hun belangstelling doen blijken.World of Walas hanteert het Earth Charter als een ethische leidraad voor onze ontwikkelingen en projecten. Dat is allesbehalve een handicap. Met een andere focus kan in elk project tegen nauwelijks toename van kosten een grote mate van technische en sociaal-economische duurzaamheid worden bereikt. Veel mensen en bedrijven sluiten zich er graag bij aan.

De Creatieve Fabriek heeft een dynamisch en creatief concept ontwikkeld voor het voormalige Holec-Hazemeyerterrein. Het betreft een zeer bijzondere, historische, industriële locatie in het centrum van Hengelo. Het ligt centraal, intiem ingeklemd tussen twee spoorlijnen en behoudt daardoor en geheel eigen, uniek karakter. De oude voormalige fabrieksgebouwen hebben in het verleden geopereerd onder verschillende namen, zoals Hazemeyer, Hemaf, Holec, Holec/Eaton en zeer vele Hengeloërs en Twentenaren vonden er een zeker emplooi. De interessante gebouwen worden thans in oude stijl hersteld.

Landgoed Schovenhorst staat aan de vooravond van grote veranderingen. Hoewel Schovenhorst in 155 jaar van heideveld tot een prachtig landgoed is geworden met imposante bomentuinen, zijn veranderingen noodzakelijk. Om het landgoed ook in de 21e eeuw functioneel te laten zijn is het plan ‘Landgoed Schovenhorst, de mooiste bomentuin van Nederland’ ontwikkeld. Dit plan past in de traditie van het landgoed, waarbij opvolgende generaties eigenaren en beheerders al sedert 1845 op eigen wijze iets hebben toegevoegd aan het landgoed.
