Irwin Sternberg, a 14-year veteran of Jos. A Bank Clothiers in Baltimore, has a world-class record of entrepreneurial accomplishments. After graduating with a degree in marketing from the University of Baltimore, he worked his way up from the Jos. A Bank’s stock room, to the boardroom, working directly with the original Bank family. He then moved to New York City to work in a small tie company and from there, founded Stonehenge Ltd. Stonehenge began as a private label manufacture back in 1984 producing neckwear for better retailers such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. Stonehenge became one of the first major manufactures to transpose artwork onto neckwear, specifically the work of the late Grateful Dead guitarist and singer Jerry Garcia in 1992. By the end of the first year, the Jerry Garcia ties became the best selling ties in the history of neckwear, according to The NY Times Sternberg continued to develop neckwear for other musical icons such as Frank Sinatra and Miles Davis and shortly there after, created additional fashion statements that would benefit great cause related organizations. The ”Jimmy V Collection” (named for the late NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano), raised more than $1 million for the Jimmy V Foundation, and the “Cocktail Collection,” raised more than $2 million for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving.Irwin has been recognized on many different broadcast and editorials worldwide such as 60 Minutes, CNN Business News, The BBC News, People Magazine and MR Magazine, the menswear industries journal, honored Sternberg as one of the most fascinating people in menswear. Both Ernst & Young and the University of Baltimore honored Sternberg with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Advertising Age for Top 100 Companies and was honored Father of the Year for The National Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
