In this position, I am helping to build the University of Calgary's postsecondary mental health and wellbeing research space, a hub for transdisciplinary research. Working with Dr. Andrew Szeto and Dr. Jennifer Thannhauser, I support with event planning, conducting environmental scans, making presentations and other research tasks.

As a 2S/LGBTQ+ Health Hub Fellow, I will be participating in seminars, gaining research experience and working with a mentor to further my research on peer support for trans folks who are suicidal.

-Provides one-on-one support sessions to students in areas such as wellness, mental health, institutional barriers, academic demands and 2SLGBTQIA+ identity and expression. -Practices from a student-centered, anti-oppressive framework through psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, resource navigation and motivational interviewing. -Makes informed referrals to internal and external support services and advocates with students to access those supports when required. -Maintain statistics and reporting and develops programs responding to current trends and student feedback. -Actively participates on mental health committees at the provincial level. -Trains and supervises student peer support workers.

-Develops, implements and assesses peer support and educational programming for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. -Provides one-on-one and group support to 2SLGBTQIA+ people in areas related to eating disorders, including wellness, gender identity and expression, and navigation of structural barriers. -Maintains statistics and reporting on all 2SLGBTQIA+-specific programs. -Develops and implements educational programming for healthcare providers working with 2SLGBTQIA+ clients.

-Collaborated with staff and executive teams to implement programming for over 18,000 members. -Maintained budgets, statistics and reporting for multiple departments including the Food Bank, Tiger Patrol, Dalhousie Student Advising Service, and other operational and student support services. -Referred students facing difficulties to appropriate community and campus resources. -Developed and implemented institution-wide educational events such as a Pronoun Competency Workshop with attendance of over 75 Dalhousie faculty, staff and administrators. -Contributed to initiatives dedicated to Dalhousie University’s understanding of sexual and gender diversity including active participation on the Name Change in Dalhousie Systems Working Group and other relevant EDIA committees.
