I did this through two week-long programs over the summer that focused on updating resumes effectively, choosing colleges to apply to, and participating in alumni panels about my experience with the college process and attending college with the goal of demystifying this process and providing insight to students. Also, I identified outdated scholarship opportunities on an Airtable website. Through collaborative brainstorming, planning, and newtork-building, with other student-run community organizations, we were able to successfully promote and execute three on-campus events per semester. We worked with the school's administration to get events approved and have funding secured in a timely manner. Additionally, we allocated responsibilities effectively as a 5-person team to ensure we created a welcoming space for the migrant community in Addison County as well as raised awareness of ways to help and connect with them on-campus. Our spotlight event, Stories that Migrate, which was started years ago by the members of the organization to provide exactly this safe and welcoming environment, was continued in the Spring. It was an open forum for anyone in any language to share anything personal relating to an experience of migration. With the help of the Anderson Freeman Center (AFC) staff and the rest of the JUNTOS Board, we were able to welcome dozens into the AFC with snacks and a space to share everything from poems and historic news articles to personal memoirs about their own and their families migration stories. It was an honor to moderate and share something myself at this event. Show less
