In this role I was required to perform regular checks and updates on funds, ensuring all information was homogeneous and accurate between our different platforms. Day-to-day tasks included checking client holdings in funds and writing out to clients and brokers on planned fund changes, being responsible for updating these changes in the system and following up on any related queries.Throughout my time at the firm, I also extended my services to other departments. I assisted in the large-scale digitization of stored documents, manually processed prices when needed and even helped to develop training materials with the skills development team. My administration and office skills progressed greatly during my time at the firm, and I gained experience with a number of industry systems including AS400, Bloomberg, Bancs and Capsco.

The role taught me the importance of time management and memory, with complicated directions and street names needing to be memorized. My interpersonal and communication skills were also improved through the role as I was constantly interacting with customers of all creeds, with a friendly and efficient service required to ensure customer retention and satisfaction.

Working for around 4 different pubs/bars, these roles taught me the importance of flexibility as i had to adapt the knowledge I gained in one job to a slightly different location. It also taught me the importance of knowing your clients, as customer retention is crucial to the survival of small, independent venues.

I worked this role two afternoons a week during my first year of A Levels. I felt i needed to fill my time effectively as I had free periods on these days so I sought out work experience within the Isle of Man Government in order to gain experience in the world of Politics and in an office environment. In this role, i was required to develop my understanding of key MS Office applications and develop strong Excel skills. I was tasked with a multitude of projects including analysing electoral data, updating and maintaining records and important files, and even graphic design, creating informative graphs based on the electoral data to be used on their website.

Being a customer-facing role, the job taught me the importance of effective communication, patience and flexibility, as I had to adapt to the different demands of our customers to provide them with a satisfactory and personal service to ensure customer retention.
