I curated and data based often at my intern, I worked a great deal in SHAARD, digging up field surveys on a project. This project was going through our physical documents and seeing what was in SHAARD and what was not. The goal was to liquidate our physical files as the AAL is very tight on space and having several thousands of documents sitting around in file cabinets was doing more harm than good when digital databases can simply store all of our information, free of actual physical space.… Show more I curated and data based often at my intern, I worked a great deal in SHAARD, digging up field surveys on a project. This project was going through our physical documents and seeing what was in SHAARD and what was not. The goal was to liquidate our physical files as the AAL is very tight on space and having several thousands of documents sitting around in file cabinets was doing more harm than good when digital databases can simply store all of our information, free of actual physical space. This project was fairly simple but was interesting and time consuming; interesting in seeing the vast amount of data and projects the AAL had done in the past and what was presently being done but time consuming simply due to the fact that we had thousands upon thousands of documents to go through. In my time of working on SHAARD I had only been able to take out 2 or 3 counties, spanning 20 to 30 years each. Another project I worked on was Taylor Village. The project was done in Hamilton county and the artifacts themselves had been sitting around in BSU's AAL for several years, waiting to be curated, cataloged and put away. That was my duty. We had several thousand artifacts to look through and put into a database. This project was also fairly simple and rather tedious. We marked the artifacts into boxes that were labeled and categorized by where the artifacts were found, coordinates-wise. We'd have a box labelled "30w-150s...etc etc" with those artifacts from that region. Artifacts ranged from actual bones to a numerous amount of stone ware, like flake tools and the like. We'd separate the very large, ambiguous stones (they were labeled to have less relevance than our stone ware tools found) into larger, sturdier bags that we would put at the bottom of the box and leave the lighter, more delicate artifacts up on top to avoid them being crushed under the weight. I worked with other coworkers, setting up and maintaining rooms and events for the Student Center. I accessed computers and other technology often as well as did a great deal of hard, manual labor. Much communication and planning was involved in this position.
