Work Experience: Flower Farmer (Spring 2023-Fall 2023): Flower Farmhand at Strawberry Hill’s Farm. I planted and harvested a variety of crops using sustainable agricultural practices including espalier, no-till, the use of natural pesticides and pest management regimes, and intercropping for nitrogen fixing. I gave tours for community and children’s groups explaining these practices. I drove ride-on lawn mowers and tractors, installed automatic irrigation systems, and sold flowers at the local farmer’s market using electronic payment systems and my knowledge of how to match the right flowers with the right customers. Volunteer Ranger (Fall 2020-Spring 2021): Maryland Conservation Corps Volunteer Ranger at Susquehanna State Park, through Americorps. I led numerous Maryland Conservation Corps projects, from conception to execution, including educational presentations for grade schoolers on wildlife, rescued animals in our care (including raptors, snakes, and turtles), fisheries, and local history. U gave guided tours of the park’s trails, Historic Lapidum, the Rock Run Grist Mill, and the Carter-Archer Mansion. On the physical side I led the creation of a new trail, the construction of a 24 ft bridge, removal and replacement of wooden guideposts, and the refurbishment of a playground. Data Manager (Spring 2021): Maryland Responds Medical Service Corps Data Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, through Americorps. I helped coordinate Maryland’s emergency response to the COVID-19 Pandemic by verifying volunteer responder’s identities and credentials, answering their questions, mailing them relevant supplies (e.g. IDs), and adding them into the spreadsheet backend of the Maryland Responds website. Research Intern (Fall 2019): Research Intern under Sarah Lawrence professor Elke Zuern, assisting with her research on media coverage of the Herero and Namaqua genocide.
