Modeled the shape of an IR Gaussian beam through an optical system using Python and a complex ray approximation to trace the shape of the beam along its path and assembled a system to keep the beam from burning the sides of the instrument it passed through. Modeled energy loss curve for ions after photon absorption in Python to determine whether a CW or pulsed laser would better benefit the combined system experiment. Developed and implemented a standard operating procedure for installing surface mounted electronics on a PCB to create an ion funnel trap which took construction time from 36 hours to 3 hours. Constructed and debugged electronic circuitry designed for data acquisition.
