For over 30 years, I have helped clients create and realize thoughtful designs across a range of project types and scales. This work has included new construction and renovations and has focused on higher education, cultural and performing arts, and innovative workplaces. I believe in the power of big ideas to transform the built environment, resulting in buildings and places that are valued by their constituents, rich with meaning, and powerfully connected to their place. I believe that architecture is a language of space and materials interwoven with art and technology that is revealed in the clarity, craft, and beauty of the work.I have forged strong and focused collaborations with clients who are the primary focus of my creative energy. These partnerships demonstrate my ability to build consensus among diverse constituents, enabling them to realize complex projects that are uniquely responsive to their program and goals. My focused approach to design has resulted in projects that are clear in their intent, rigorous in their execution, and meet budget and schedule requirements. The result is a sophisticated body of work that has been widely recognized through publications, exhibitions, and awards.I received my Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University in 1991. My early career was spent working on large-scale projects for the cultural arts, higher education, transportation, and commercial office space at Cesar Pelli & Associates (now Pelli Clarke & Partners) in New Haven, Connecticut. As a lead designer and principal at Bora Architects in Portland, my work included the planning and design of Stanford University’s new four-building Science and Engineering Quad as well as major educational arts projects at Virginia Tech and the University of Texas at Austin.Since founding OFFICE 52 Architecture with my partner Michelle LaFoe in 2010, I have co-led the studio’s planning and design of transformative projects including Scott Hall for the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and Tykeson Hall for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon. My other project work includes campus planning initiatives, residential projects, commercial office space, landscapes, custom furniture, and unique storytelling installations. I have spoken extensively about design at conferences and schools across the country.
