About Isaac Chacon

Since my arrival in Yucatan and my joining of the Civil Association KALANBIO, I have played a pivotal role in the direction and management of projects related to marine biodiversity, coral reef strandings, ecological restoration, and citizen science. Additionally, in collaboration with UNAM and the Cenoteando research group, I have been actively involved in the study and conservation of cenotes. My initial efforts were focused on creating a comprehensive inventory of species associated with cenotes through large-scale monitoring, developed with the logistical support of citizen science, recording to date over 1,400 species in cenotes. It's worth noting that in 2019, I received funding from National Geographic for this project. My performance in project planning, direction, and management has significantly contributed to the organization's success. Starting in March of this year, I took on the role of Director at KALANBIO with the aim of driving the 'Social and Environmental Responsibility Co-Management Strategies for Cenote Care and Conservation' program within the organization. Currently, we are working on the 'Ts'onot' and 'Biodiversity in Cenotes' projects. I am committed to the conservation of our environment and excited about the positive impact we can achieve together.
