I’m an entrepreneur, writer, and human-centered designer based on a small farm in British Columbia. As a founder at Croft, I build enduring hydrogen equipment for humanity's toughest jobs - from rural agriculture and heavy transportation to humanitarian efforts, firefighting, emergency services and defense. We're working on a blueprint for a hydrogen economy that is enduring, local and clean. And we're building a great team, so if this sounds like your calling I hope you'll get in touch. I've spent the last 15-20 years designing human-centered technical equipment for remote communities and infrastructure deserts around the world. In 2010 I co-founded a social enterprise called Medic, to build digital infrastructure for healthcare and humanitarian efforts in hard to reach communities. As part of the Medic team I co-designed the Community Health Toolkit, which >165,000 health workers have used to support over 10M households in Africa and South Asia. Prior to Croft I was a faculty member in Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. I've published award-winning scholarship in design studies, computer science and organizational theory; my ~40 articles have been downloaded tens of thousands of times and received over 1,000 citations. I received my Ph.D. in human centered product design from the University of Cambridge, where I was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. In free time you'll find me hunting, fishing, off-roading, or tending my little orchard with my family.
