I was promoted to found Yext’s Services Engineering team in London, the company’s first engineering team based internationally. Our team was created to handle all professional services work for EMEA-based clients. After a demonstrated rise in European clients’ CSAT scores, we took on APAC, as well, bringing us to over 100 accounts. After arriving in London as the sole engineer outside of the U.S., I grew our team to six full-time engineers who all reported to me. My role as software engineering manager was multifaceted. I conducted technical and behavioral interviews with all applicants and was responsible for training and onboarding team members. As the ranking engineer in EMEA, I was involved in everything from sales guidance to organization-wide, cross-functional initiatives. I also acted as the tech lead for the team by providing estimates, code reviews, and engineering guidance to a range of non-technical stakeholders and developers alike, as well as interfacing with clients directly when technical resources were required. In addition to my management duties, I continued with IC engineering work for urgent or complex client requests. With our team’s far-reaching customer base, issues arose frequently, and I was first on the scene to triage and resolve them.

Led two sequential engineering teams responsible for two of Yext’s largest accounts, both prominent Fortune 100 financial services institutions. My teams built and managed all custom software the client needed to integrate their systems with Yext and surface their data across the web. This included data integrations and reporting systems written in Golang and running on Jenkins, analytics dashboards written in Java and front-end languages, search engine-optimized static web pages built with Soy/Closure templates, and interactive consumer-facing web applications powered by React and AWS.

Lead a Yext pilot program in London and became the first Yext engineer to work outside the U.S., with a focus on our European clients’ initiatives. Also acted as a technical resource in client-site sales meetings across Europe.

During my summer at Yext, I was integrated into the Consulting Engineering team, building Yext Pages for dozens of Fortune 500 companies using mostly Javascript, Soy/Closure, and HTML/CSS. I pushed live code every day and worked closely with project managers, designers, and other stakeholders to implement a cohesive product. These sites provided the client with SEO improvements and analytics insights, while integrating seamlessly into the clients’ main corporate domains.

While working as a backend developer at Intelimétrica, I worked on three main projects. Firstly, I built a Python-based API using Flask for a mapping component of their software. This required designing and developing a two-level SQLite caching system that is currently being published on GitHub and is called “Cacheful”. Secondly, I developed Python scripts that interfaced Amazon’s Boto3 API for Amazon Web Services. These allowed for a quicker command line interaction with the cloud service to avoid using a somewhat cumbersome web UI for basic tasks. They also could clone entire Virtual Private Clouds for testing purposes. Thirdly, I researched and created a schema for a more security-focused approach to deployment on Amazon Web Services as well as a process to migrate an existing application to a more secure Virtual Private Cloud.

I wrote scripts to efficiently evaluate our clients’ need for consistent security testing. I created an optimized process for reporting of security vulnerabilities. This effort went from concept to company-wide implementation in two weeks. I tested e-learning programs used to teach Broadridge employees about application security, and I assisted in managing the platform used to scan and assess possible vulnerabilities in the company’s library of applications.

I worked at DigitalFusion in the DF Studio division throughout the summer of 2014. It started as a four week internship that was extended to be a full summer job. I managed data transfer for major Hollywood studios (FOX, HBO, Sony Pictures, etc.) from long-archived external hard drives safely to DF Studio's cloud. I also wrote blog posts about DF Studio's new features as well as comparisons to other cloud services. In addition, I worked to monitor inquiries from clients about problems or bugs they were experiencing or questions they had. I also built a web page that compiled data from StatHat into a relevant quick access page.

For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I organized the repainting of a 1600 square foot mural of the U.S. on the playground of Grant Elementary. The 20 year old map, that I had so enjoyed while at Grant, had recently been paved over. I have fond memories running over the enormous map, learning the states while having fun. Over seventy volunteers showed up, ranging from five to ninety years old, and together we accounted for over 250 hours of work.I partnered with the school and district administration, the original map painter, a local paint store, and of course Troop 2 to get all the needed materials and manpower to take on this task.

Worked as a sales associate at Troop 2's annual Christmas Tree Lot. The Lot had an annual revenue of $70,000 for the organization.
