I surveyed a region of the Umpqua NF for a USFS Common Stand Exam as part of a 9-person team. Over the course of 8 hitches, I surveyed over 225 plots, the most of any team member. Due to my comfort with off-trail navigation, I was consistently assigned to the most difficult to access plots. I used GPS and bushwhacking to navigate between plots, where I performed variable and fixed plot sampling. I used a relascope and dendrometer to select variable plot trees. Sampled trees were identified to species and measured for height, DBH, age and radial growth, crown ratio and class, wildlife use, and damages. I also measured plot-level characteristics such as slope, aspect, and understory vegetation. For one of the project’s 8-day hitches, I served as the stand-in team leader. I strategized the assignment of plots to manage the team’s energy and to ensure that we maintained a high level of quality and productivity in the absence of our usual management. This job provided me with a wealth of experience in forest mensuration and team leadership. I look forward to applying these skills in future roles.

I interned in the Yanai lab as part of the Multiple Element Limitation in Northern Hardwood Ecosystems (MELNHE) study in Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, Bartlett Experimental Forest, and Jeffers Brook. I designed and carried out a study to test whether temporal increases in measured soil respiration values are an artifact of soil respiration collars aging. I assisted with fertilizing the experimental plots and performing canopy- and herb-layer inventories.

I worked with experienced facilitators to deliver games, activities and discussion focused on developing emotional intelligence to 4th and 5th graders in an outdoor education context.

I created a fully reproducible set of R script files in a GitHub repository to aggregate, process, and analyze streamflow data for 150 USGS streamgage sites from multiple databases to support research on the effects of altered rainfall regimes on streamflow predictability.

I performed exterior house cleaning services (including window washing and roof care) in a team at a high level of professional excellence in all weather conditions.

* Oversaw a program providing bike loans and mechanical service to over 500 students.* Recruited, trained, and managed 10-person volunteer team for all operations.* Managed annual budget of $650 and maintained inventory of parts and supplies.* Applied for annual funding though the student association. * Coordinated a community bike donation event in collaboration with a local nonprofit to fix up old or unused bikes for donation to community members experiencing income-related transportation barriers.
