I am an MSc student at TU Dublin where I am studying Sustainable Transport and Mobility, a subject that I have been greatly interested in for the past several years. In November of 2023, I graduated from NCI with a 2:1 level 8 BA (Hons) Business degree. In my final year, I focused on Corporate Environmentalism. It was the undertaking of this module which highlighted to me just how passionate I was about this field of work and it was the catalyst for me in choosing a career in this area. I strongly believe that investment in our Public Transport systems and active travel networks can not only greatly lower our carbon emissions but also significantly improve the feel and beauty of our towns and villages. In February 2024 I joined the Assets and Operations team at Arup team as an assistant consultant. I quickly became involved in PMO work for Transport Infrastructure Ireland. Whilst the role is varied, on a routine basis I train new joiners in using TII's Microsoft Teams platform, I compile monthly reports in areas of finance, interoperability, risk, and project-specific updates for the Tolling Portfolio Progress Group, and I create user manuals to improve work efficiencies across TII's Teams. Our small PMO team have also began to explore ways in which we bring value to our Arup colleagues alongside the work we already do. Our aims are to standardise systems across our team from project start-ups to close-outs, to assist project managers in their delivery and to reduce time (and financial) waste across a project's life span. In addition to this role, I am also currently assisting TII in their asset management. I currently track, record, and update TII's energy department on the status of their ITS sites in regards to billing, energy consumption, and meter readings. I have also been working on an asset tracker for TII to provide a document detailing hundreds of ITS assets across the nation, the depreciation status of these assets and their current NBV. Whilst I am incredibly satisfied in my current role, my ideal career would be in the area of transport planning and urban design. In the near future I plan on taking on more tasks in this area with the aim of eventually working full-time on urban transport projects.Outside of work, I have obtained a first-degree black belt in ITF Taekwondo from Master Steven Cooley at River Valley and Ashbourne Taekwondo Club. I was also fortunate enough to undertake an eight day intensive training camp in the Ukraine with my club training with multiple time world champions under the guidance of expert coaches.
