I taught first and second year psychology students over the span of eight semesters.Over this period, I taught four university courses: introductory and intermediate courses in statistics, as well as courses covering social, developmental and clinical psychology. I also led the teaching team in a course addressing psychological approaches to complex societal problems.
I was involved in a collaborative longitudinal research project between The University of Queensland (UQ), The University of New South Wales (UNSW), and a group of mental health agencies. In this role, I worked on a large-scale Australia wide survey of 1,000 producers from 15 agricultural industries. I handled the analysis of pilot survey data, resulting in me producing a +100 page preliminary report, which informed the final survey design. Furthermore, I contributed to the production of the final 100 page report that was distributed to the government and 15 agricultural industry stakeholders around Australia to inform decision-making and policy implementation. This work led to a publications in an academic journal and other industry related outlets.Key statistical techniques: Data cleaning and transformations; chi-square tests; ANOVAs; correlations; hierarchical multiple regressions.
I worked on a research project in an interdisciplinary team, involving the collaboration of Professor Lionel Page (then at QUT) and Professor Bill von Hippel (UQ).I led the field study data collection, where we collected data from shoppers in two shopping centre locations in Brisbane, QLD. We sought to investigate the effects of glucose consumption on shopper purchasing behaviour. Specifically, we tested whether it suppressed or bolstered self-control by examining the type of items purchased and their caloric content.I reviewed the relevant academic literatures, contributed to study design, and coordinated and carried out the in-the-field data collection. Following data collection, I cleaned the data and conducted preliminary analyses.The findings: We found that glucose consumption had no clear effect on purchasing behaviour.
I was a researcher in Professor William von Hippel's lab at the University of Queensland's School of Psychology.The role afforded me the unique opportunity to engage the psychological literature on diverse research topics, formulate experimental designs, conduct studies, analyse data, and contribute to the production of manuscripts for publication.Research topics I invested during this span included: social intelligence, overconfidence, lie detection, self-deception, charisma, and persuasion and influence.
