When I was 15 years old, I got my first job as a concession-stand worker for a pool. This was a great beginner's job because of the valuable skills it provided me. I worked alone making and selling food for members of the country club. In doing this, I learned customer service, money-handling, and food preparation. My second job was rather similar, except I was making smoothies. Every shift, I would open, close, and manage the smoothie bar by myself. A couple new skills that this job taught me are performing transactions via an app (as opposed to a cash register) and selling promotional items. This would be my last food-industry job because I moved on to become a bowl desk attendant at an entertainment facility. Sometimes with a team and sometimes by myself, I would reserve bowling lanes, sell passes, answer questions, and clean and put away shoes. One big takeaway from this job was how to work quickly and efficiently under periods of high stress. My current job as a children's swim instructor is teaching me skills such as patience, leadership, problem-solving, and communication. Each job has taught me something different, but regardless of what I'm doing, I'm always learning.
