Communities and Urban Science Research Group.I lead NREL's Building Performance Standards technical assistance (TA) and applied research portfolio. We provide free TA to jurisdictions interested in the equitable engagement of BPS and perform strategic research to provide scalable resources and methodologies. We provide TA in a number of key areas such as software and complex building data management, stakeholder engagement, equity impact analyses, and more. I also lead a series of projects investigating equity in commercial buildings through commercial real estate data analysis and community-based participatory research practices. We provide multilingual research and resources rooted in community perspectives to further our industry's understanding of equity in commercial buildings and bring lived experience and expertise into the research process and outcomes. Additionally, I leverage my experience in domestic decarbonization policies and building codes to provide international support through NREL's partnerships abroad.

Brooklyn, New York

Investigate, troubleshoot and communicate technical problems for our clients' commercial HVAC+R building systems across New England and New York. Identify and clearly document these technical issues in multiple remote databases, while working with building managers, site users, and technicians to resolve issue. Beyond monitoring building systems, I leverage analytics to enhance energy efficiency programming such as preventative maintenance projects, pilot demand response programs, and more.

Install, program, and service Danfoss and Emerson controls in commercial building facilities to optimize HVAC+R operations and energy efficiency. It is also imperative to clearly communicate updates with fellow technicians and facility managers or store users in a clear jargon-filled or jargon-free style.

Patagonia, Chile

Researched land use history, socioeconomic and cultural context and history, and natural resource development in Aysén region of Patagonia, Chile. Working with local organizations, we backpacked in back country to investigate the spatial distribution of native, Northofagus pumilia, at specific elevations and slope aspects in mountain ecosystems of Aysén. The data we compiled was then used by quasi-governmental organizations to inform culturally relevant future reforestation projects in Chile.

Missoula, Montana

I coordinated programming and budgeting for an Iraqi and Kurdish student exchange program in Montana. I worked with World Learning and Wilderness Institute to create curriculum and programming to investigate the relationships between environmental and cultural preservation in Montana. I directed students in numerous field excursions, facilitated intercultural listening sessions, and environmental science classes. Curriculum and classes were informed by student interests and local initiatives. For example, students investigated the importance of hydroelectricity for the Blackfeet Nation’s cultural and economic autonomy by meeting with elders at different sites on the reservation, and also engaged and played indigenous games with youth at local college to learn about the role of 'play' in teaching important cultural values in the community.
