Avila Rios Consulting exists to provide school districts with the skills, knowledge, and action to create environments where students have power and voice in their schools. This happens through creating and advising students voice groups on creating student-led change. Connecting with students in districts to share knowledge around youth organizing and navigating oppressive systems has resulted in more positive learning outcomes. This is done through creating curriculum for ethnic studies lessons, teaching how demands lead to change, and imbed student organizing principles. In addition to students, school and district leaders are coached on their approaches to student voice and engagement. Coaching educators on how to work with student leaders helps prevent obstacles to students voice, like adultism, and instead leads to better relationships and the transferring of power.

As undocumented immigrants break down barriers entering into institutions of higher education, the Network for Undocu-Student Support in Higher Education (NUSSHE) works to expand the resources, connections, and services available to our community through a network of undocumented students and allies, who are all Chicago Public Schools alumni, while keeping first-year students’ transition into these institutions as a priority. We defend and uplift our undocumented students in their post secondary journeys with Chicago being what brings us together.NUSSHE was created to be a space in which Chicago High School Alum who are undocumented/mixed status can be learning and supported in an environment alongside individuals with the same background. Every other month, convenings are held which include connection activities, workshops, journaling, reflections, and at length discussions about current policy, education opportunities, and personal growth.
