It was my parents that taught me how reading can help understand the world. Long before the days of Audible, I remember as a child my parents playing books on cassette tape in the car instead of the radio or music. My favorite childhood memories were story times at the local library, summer reading challenges, or writing book reports for class. Now, as an adult, I've found that navigating the public health field is much like reading a book. Learning who the characters are, understanding where they come from, and what obstacles the characters face is how I approach my work in public health. My passion for reading has fueled my passion for helping underserved and underrepresented communities and providing people with the resources they need continue their own stories.My professional experience includes working in team environments and project management and execution. As a consultant for DotHouse Health, I worked in small team to address the issue of medical adherence and reconciliation for patients with language and literacy barrier. For two semesters, I was part of the teaching team for a graduate, introductory public health course, where I mentored classes up to 50 students. At my current position as a program coordinator, I organized a scientific symposium for around 200 guests from clinical to research backgrounds.While my main focus is building a career in public health, I've been able to pursue my passion for reading in various different ways. In college, I worked at an independent bookstore and built relationships with customers and recommended books based on their interests. During COVID, I started a book and relationship podcast, Are You There Love?, where I had the opportunity to partner with Trident Booksellers and Cafe for audience giveaways and interview author Leah Johnson.
