As the Program Facilitator I am responsible for the implementation of the High Desert Project initiative. This new and dynamic initiative uses the power of immersive interdisciplinary experiences to spark dialogue and connection, increase respect for differences, and advance appreciation for our shared accountability to the High Desert region. The High Desert Project achieves this vision through four to five event series each year centered around topics important in the region. Each series consists of 4-5 events that combine immersive experiences with in-depth dialogue. I collaborate with the Museum’s Executive Director, Assistant Director of Strategic Engagement, Director of Communications, and external advisors to coordinate event series and contribute to the initiative’s long-term direction and vision. I also help cultivate a growing cohort of alumni who have previously participated in an event series and the growth of the initiative to include other event types.

In my current role, my primary focus has been designing and leading university class visits for a range of disciplines, establishing programs and research using the collection, and co-curating exhibitions with Faculty that connect course themes to works of art. My work requires me to be interdisciplinary, collaborative, and ambitious. As the Curriculum Design Intern, I worked on designing and creating the modules, or snapshots of the lesson plan, that any teacher can use to implement an arts-integrated lesson. ArtCore modules are inspired by big ideas, driven by essential questions, and connected to core subject areas by weaving creative engagement, artistic principles, and the studio habits of mind throughout. With purposeful alignment to national and state academic and arts standards, ArtCore modules foster engaging instruction rooted in the assessment of student learning. ArtCore was a three-year middle school journey of discovering one’s self, one’s place in the community, and one’s role in the world through the creative integration of studio habits of mind across student learning.With purposeful alignment to national and state academic and arts standards, ArtCore modules foster engaging instruction and pave the way for a new education paradigm that empowers all learners with voice and choice and expands the definition of student success.
