Isabella is proud to be a Creative Writing student at Fordham University with a minor in French. She uses fiction and creative nonfiction alike to explore the nuances of multicultural identity and family. She is a returning writer for Fordham’s literary journal Bricolage, The Comma LC Magazine, and soon, the fashion magazine Flash. Isabella is also an illustrator and lifelong artist, and she had her first illustration publication released this past summer 2024. As an avid student and reader, Isabella is interested in pursuing a career in publishing that would allow her to continue studying and refining new literature. Having grown up in a Mexican-American household, she is particularly interested in writing that explores the immense beauty and complexity of multicultural identities. She hopes to use her love for language to lift up the next generation of diverse, innovative writers and eventually become one of them herself. Alongside her passion for literature, she continues to nurture her love for theatre as an actor in Fordham Theatre’s prestigious productions. Her all-time favorites are Giovanni’s Room and Mrs. Dalloway, and her favorite recent publication is Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar.

Research AssistantFordham University Jun 2024 - Aug 2024New York, New York, United StatesAs a Research Assistant for Professor Johanna S. Quinn’s scholarly book project on the teacher strikes of 2018-19, I helped collect and organize research data. Some of my major responsibilities were to transcribe and analyze oral histories, organize outreach resources to diversify our network of educators, and pull and code archival newspaper articles from the strikes. This process enlightened me on the importance of community engagement and mutual aid in social justice movements. I hope to use the hard research skills I gained working for Dr. Quinn in my current creative research project about the inheritance of Mexican food. -
