I am an entrepreneur with first-hand experience of creating and developing an internationally orientated service sector business, Comtec Translations, and a continuing interest in the interface between business activity and public policy. After carrying out doctoral research into aspects of later-life entrepreneurship I also founded The Olderpreneur Alliance, a community interest company dedicated to supporting, training, encouraging, and advocating for, later-life entrepreneurs.I have extensive experience of commercial management and administration, contract negotiation, project planning and management, linguistic and cross-cultural communication, client/supplier relationship management, change management and government and EU funded programmes. Sectorally I have a strong affinity to the manufacturing, engineering and software sectors for which Comtec provides translation, interpreting and localisation services. In addition, I have experience of managing up to 65 staff and £10 million budgets. Alongside the doctoral research already mentioned, I spearheaded research on the effect of language skills on the performance of SMEs across United Kingdom and EU member states. Specialist skills: business strategy development, customer care, project management, change management, bid writing, quality management (ISO9001:2015), including performance measurement and supplier recruitment and assessment, consecutive and liaison interpreting (Polish).
