Armijos on exploratory analysis to confirm the presence of Toxoplasma gondii in placental DNA samples from OB/GYN hospitals in the urban and peri-urban areas of Villa Hermosa and Cunduacan municipalities, Tabasco State, Mexico. - Samples were received on FTA cards. After undergoing DNA elution, we ran a conventional PCR targeting the internal transcriber spacer 1 (ITS-1). In addition to positive and negative controls, PCR products were run using a 1% agarose gel electrophoresis, and through sequencing and comparison of PCR products, we confirmed the presence of T. gondii DNA in approximately 18.8% of samples. - Presented findings at the 2024 Indiana University School of Public Health Research Day and the 2024 Hutton Honors College Undergraduate Research Symposium.
