I prepare and score neuropsychological, cognitive and educational assessment forms for clients. It is also under my scope to triage clients and caregivers for psychologists; often I am the initial contact person for individuals seeking treatment for themselves or their children, and collect basic information in order to recommend the assessment that best suits clients’ needs. I also engage in preliminary psychoeducation regarding assessments, diagnoses, treatment to ease clients’ concerns.

Shadowed a psychologist during therapy sessions and closely followed the progression of several cases. During this time, I observed case patients, engaged in case formulation prior to sessions, followed the course of the therapy session, and under psychologist’s supervision, I hypothesised analysis and treatment development following each session. Through this experience, I had a better understanding of how therapy is conducted, differences between different types of therapy (CBT, trauma-focused therapy, etc.) as well as the various techniques implemented during therapy depending on the patient (age, difficulties faced, etc.) Treatments ranged from psychoeducation to CBT, imagery, and often involved patients having “homework” , which can be journalling for awareness, and also to practice the techniques being taught and practised during sessions.

Worked with young children (aged 2-6 years old), some of whom displayed behavioural issues, and aided with their physical and emotional care and nurturing. I had much practice working with children, more specifically engaging them in activities, communicating effectively with them, successful conflict resolution, and helping them with emotional regulation through calm and relaxed speech and actions.

Taught in a special education school for a year in Singapore. During my time there, I taught numeracy and literacy to children with learning difficulties, intellectual disability, autism, ADHD and a plethora of other comorbid disorders. I learned how to take my theoretical understanding of coping strategies and apply it to an educational context.
