The method was applied in three demonstrations: (1) preparing an array of hydrogel particles and free-standing hydrogel particles with distinct geometries and sizes defined by the photomask features; (2) examining the cells' in situ viability encapsulated into free-standing hydrogel particles;(3) constructing magnetic responsive hydrogel particles for modular tissue engineering and shape-coded free-standing hydrogels of distinct cell types.
