Partnered with Sproutel Inc. and Brown’s Humanity-Centered Robotics Initiative (HCRI) to assess the effectiveness of “Jerry the Bear,” an interactive robotic medical device/toy that educates children, newly-diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes (T1D), in their self-care for increased medical regimen adherence. Recruit and interview study participants, and analyze data against T1D care baselines. The healthcare information delivery effectiveness tested was from the current iteration of the application and device platform, against the newer prototype, and against participants' T1D management baselines prior to receiving Jerry the Bear. Research results will help Sproutel expand the Jerry the Bear platform, and help the team gain knowledge regarding its psychosocial benefits. Recruit study subjects, interview and administer surveys to the participants and their families, and analyze data with our research team post-study. Published project findings and analyses presented April 2022 at the 2021 International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care.
