At the courthouse, I clerked daily hearings and trials virtually and in-person by preparing, organizing, and displaying exhibits, formally opening and closing court, swearing in witnesses, and coordinating with attorneys and self-represented parties. In addition, I directed the voir dire process for numerous cases by managing and leading jury panels, communicating clearly with attorneys and jurors, and managing conflicts by coordinating with supervisors and judges. Some of my other tasks included scheduling events, reviewing and executing Judge’s orders, communicating verbally and via email with attorneys and jurors, and aiding supervisors with other important projects.

As a Government Transparency Intern, I researched, authored, and promoted four blogs that synthesized and analyzed detailed technical data with the goal of informing constituents about relevant political and economic trends such as COVID-19 policy, unemployment claims, and the manufacturing sector employment trends. In order to do so effectively and comprehensively, I collected, collated, and normalized data from databases, news outlets, and other sources which informed my blog conclusions and allowed me to create supporting infographics that effectively illustrated my conclusions. In addition, I collaborated and communicated effectively with fellow interns and supervisors to peer review pre-production content, ensuring each teammate created a high-quality product while fostering a teamwide culture of respect and professional development.

My role was to aid Assistant Professor Michael Hartney by locating, summarizing and reviewing articles, editorials and scientific papers and to independently conduct quantitative and qualitative research for use in his work. I created reference databases, consolidating relevant information for two of his working papers: “Teachers Unions and School Board Elections: a Reappraisal” and “Do Off-Cycle Elections Advantage Special Interest Groups? Evidence from School Board Elections”. Most recently, my research focused on his newest book which explores the impact of politics on school re-openings and the COVID-19 pandemic. My responsibilities included weekly meetings to collaborate with and present key findings to Professor Hartney and a peer assistant.

Working closely with the Deputy Director, I helped with independent and group assignments focused on human rights issues. The Executive Office at CHRO is responsible for policy making, legislative matters and education and outreach efforts. I observed and received training on the legal mediation process for civil rights law, taking part in investigations to organize and conduct an independent mediation. In addition, I directed and planned The Summer Symposium on Education Disparities with four teammates by organizing speakers, creating and promoting content online via social media and email and designed and managed the event registration system.

I mentored a middle school student in reading and writing by reading texts together, discussing content understanding, questioning author's intent and purpose, identifying word choice, imagery and other literary devices and completing assignments to affirm critical reading and writing skill mastery. I also created engaging and interactive lesson plans to teach the writing process: how to read critically, gather evidence, craft a thesis, use intentional language and edit writing to answer a prompt effectively.

During the summers, I work for a local, family-owned and operated ice cream parlor and miniature golf shop. We pride ourselves on having the best customer service in Farmington. I work and collaborate with co-workers, providing swift and excellent customer service while accurately fulfilling orders to maximize customer satisfaction. I manage large groups and special events, mindful of dietary restrictions. I adapted to and reinforced COVID-19 regulations with co-workers and clientele.

I learned to make and serve specialty coffee beverages, fulfill orders, track inventory, operate the cash register, interact with customers in a welcoming and professional way, resolve customer concerns and close the café efficiently.
