During my tenure as a Research Assistant in the University of Michigan's Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, I had the privilege of contributing to an important study led by Dr. Denise Sekaqauptewa on "The Role of Stereotyping in Predicting Engineering Outcomes." This research aimed to delve into the impact of micro-aggressions, subtle biases, and implicit/explicit stereotypes on college students' academic performance.Key Accomplishments:• Facilitated study procedures by conducting interactions with participants, ensuring a smooth and engaging research experience.• Assumed responsibility for the meticulous oversight and maintenance of data collections for over 100 research participants, ensuring accuracy and reliability.• Conducted an extensive and comprehensive literature review, examining the effects of micro-aggressions and their implications on academic domains.• Acquired expertise in behavioral coding techniques, employing them effectively to identify instances of bias within the research data.• Collaborated closely with a partner to code for micro-aggressive behaviors during live team interactions, enhancing the granularity of our findings.• Analyzed and synthesized the data extracted from behavioral coding, presenting consolidated and meaningful insights that contributed to the broader research goals.My experience as a Research Assistant within this dynamic and impactful project has not only equipped me with invaluable skills in participant interaction and data management but also deepened my understanding of the complex factors influencing academic outcomes.
