For each of the three University of Michigan football seasons from 2012 to 2014 I lined recycling bins around Michigan Stadium helping to get over forty tons of waste recycled in 2013, and a 273 percent decrease in overall waste from 2013 to 2014. I also participated in spreading awareness by educating fans on the various ways they can recycle. Finally, I communicated across stakeholder groups within the recycling department in order to develop a culture of teamwork.

Camp Kinomaage is a Native American Youth summer camp in which American Indian students from around the Midwest spend a week in the Northern region of Michigan's lower peninsula. I served as a camp counselor for Kinomaage during August of 2013 and 2014. At this camp I helped the 7th, 8th and 9th grade campers conduct soil formation, water quality, and carbon sequestration research at the University of Michigan Bio-station. I advocated for future… Show more During the summer of 2013, I worked as an intern at Environment Michigan, a non-profit organization that has the mission of protecting Michigan's natural spaces. During this internship I facilitated over 500 conversations with business leaders, politicians, and local residents through canvassing, phone calls, emails and leadership training with policy experts about the importance of protecting and informing underserved populations of the risks of hydraulic fracturing. I advocated for future generations, urging elected officials to consider the long-term sustainability of fracking for natural gas as opposed to investment in cleaner renewable alternatives. I wrote policy memos, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data associated with fracking. I also increased awareness for state park protection, getting petitions signed and speaking with Ann Arbor locals about the importance of voting and contacting elected officials. Finally, I gathered, organized and distributed voter demographic data in order to increase grassroots support for the cause. Show less
